NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME (N.S.S.)

The Motto of the National Service Scheme (NSS) is “Not Me But You”, which reflects the valves of democratic living and the need for selfless service. It is an extension dimension to the higher education system to orient the student youth to community service, while they are studying in educational institutions. N.S.S. helps the student to grow individually and also as a group. It makes the students confident; develop leadership skills and gain knowledge about different people from different walks of life. Students also learn other skills that help them to lead a better life in various situations. This scheme was launched in 1969 in 37 Universities. At that time the NSS scheme had forty thousand students. The main objective of this scheme was to develop the personality of students through community, service. At Present Service. At Present more than 3.2 million Students form a part of N.S.S. It has spread over 298 Universities. N.S.S. organizes regular camps which are funded by the State government in which the Volunteers visit a rural areas and Perform activities like cleaning, afforestation, rallies, stage shows. They may also invite doctors for regular health checkups and free health camps for the rural population and creating awareness. With the goal of developing students and characters through voluntary community service.
