Government Arts and Science College, Vanur

Vanur Taluk in Villupuram District is one of the poor, downtrodden and financially backward areas in Education and there were no government higher education institutions in this area. To cater for the aspirations of the local population in higher education, the college was started in the academic year 2020 – 21 with the primary objective of providing world class education in the field of Arts, Science and Commerce towards the solution for problems of today and tomorrow. The college endeavors to produce confident professionals tuned to the real time working environment.

Government Arts and Science College, Thiruchitrambalam Mailam Road, Vanur Taluk, Villupuram District was inagurated by the then Honourable Chief Minister of the State Thiru. Edappadi K Palanisamy on 03/09/2020.

Government Arts and Science College, Vanur, new college building was constructed for the students at the cost of 11.33 crores and it was inaugurated by Honourable Higher Education Minister Dr. K. Ponmudi on 19/07/2024 in the presence of Villupuram District Collector Dr. Palani, IAS, Dr. Ravikumar, Member of Parliament, Ms. Usha PKT Murali, Chairman, Vanur and Dr. A. Malar Joint Director of Collegiate Education, Vellore Region, Dr. A. William, Principal (FAC) band other higher officials.

It is a Government Higher Education Institution, managed by the Director of Collegiate Education, Chennai. The college is a co- education Institution and it was affiliated to the Thiruvalluvar University, Vellore till 2022. Since then this college is being affiliated to Annamalai University, Annamalai Nagar, Chidambaram, Cuddalore - Dt, Tamil Nadu.

At Present the College offers five courses
B.A.,Tamil,

B.Com.,
B.Sc., Mathematics,
B.Sc., Computer science,
 

The Government has appointed Dr. A. William M.A.,(Eco), M.A.,(Eng), M.Phil., Ph.D, Associate Professor and Head, PG & Research Department of Economics from Arignar Anna Government Arts and Science College, Villupuram as Principal of this College with Financial power for the establishment of this college.
